Union - CO2 Extraction, Purification & Liquefaction Technology

UNION ENGINEERING FlashCO2

Medium-rich CO2 streams (PSA off gas), generated from various syngas processes typically found in refineries and petrochemical complexes, is a new alternative for production of food grade CO2.

By utilising an innovative process of combining conventional physical absorption by means of chilled MeOH and CO2 liquefaction technologies, the FlashCO2 processe liminates the requirement for steam stripping while keeping power consumption at an attractive level.

The overall CO2 recovery of the FlashCO2 unit is 92%, 12% more than the minimum required 80%.

What we can do more

CO2Extraction Plants

CaptureCO2 from any gas stream based on the combustion of fossil fuels.

Generating plants are based on absorption of CO2 from flue gas into an aqueousmonoethanolamine (MEA) solution, which is subsequent heated by the combustion process to release the raw CO2 gas. To achieve the best combination of performance and long life of the equipment, a 9% MEA /water solution is used. Under this condition, the optimal balance between CO2 load in the solution and avoidance of the corrosive effects are met.

The NOxFlash technology is the result of an innovative approach to process design and has been proven in our installations since 2006. Among other advantages, theNOxFlash technology replaces the traditional use of scrubbing with potassiumpermanganate (KMnO4) solution, thereby reducing cost and environmental impact. Furthermore, the NOxFlash system acts as proven abatement for benzene (aromatic hydrocarbon) in the final product.

The PUR-D technology is the final purification step, consisting of a distillation column which enables separation/blow-off of non-condensable gasses, thereby reducing O2contentin the final product to max. 5 ppm (v/v) and obtaining corresponding CO2purityof higher than 99.99% (v/v).

Pentair Recovery Based Unit - RBU Plant

Capture, liqueaction and purification of high purity CO2 raw gas.

High purity raw gas has a CO2 concentration of 95–99% CO2 and can e.g. be sourced from ethanol production, fermentation process, or ammonia and ethylene production etc.

The RBU plant scan be designed to remove hydrocarbons by catalytic combustion, NOx and various sulphur components are removed by propriety process solutions, just to mention a few of the challenges we often are facing.

The CO2Scrub technology will effectively remove impurities with a high boiling point, including aromatic components, all alcohols and oxygenates and some sulphur components.

Advanced Amine Technology

CO2capture technology for low-CO2 concentration sources

Durable plant design can withstand high oxygen (O2) concentrations of up to 15% in the flue gas.

Ability to extract CO2 from numerous flue gas sources with high O2 concentrations.References range from gas turbines to lime kilns, ranging from 3-25% of CO2concentrations.

More efficiencies in CO2 absorption capability due to higher amine concentration.

Benefit from a lower OPEX in the CO2 extraction process due to reduced heat consumption.

Patented design can eliminate the need for heat sources such as steam (if hot flue gas is available).

Flexibility with non-licensed amine – available worldwide.

Engineered-to-order plant ensures optimal customer-specified design for a specific gas source.
